Timing belts are made of rubber and contain fiberglass or Kevlar reinforced cords. These laces prevent the belt from stretching or breaking, which is not easy considering the tension placed on it. In addition to the above, there are other engines that use steel chains for the same purpose.

Always consider the cost of replacing the timing belt at the recommended interval to be cheaper than the cost of replacing or rebuilding the engine.
